One of the things you realize when you start a new blog is that you have no readers. Not a single soul knows about you. And while this may be discouraging for some, the main reason which keeps you from writing and putting out new content, it's also the thing which can console you. Because the other option is passivity. This lack of action will both haunt you and prevent you from exposing your ideas for the world to see. It may be a lonely road at first. A battle of choosing between going to sleep early, or having fun, but as Bukowski said "You will be alone with the Gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It's the only good fight there is." So there you have it.
The other day, I met someone, who despite being a kindred spirit introduced me to a new book which I hadn't had the pleasure of reading. A book by Kahlil Gibran called "The Prophet", and I immediately went online looking for it. Upon finding it and buying it and beginning to read from it, I was profoundly reminded of the power of discovery. How wonderful is novelty and how fleeting all at once.
Unveiling these poems for the first time was like the first kiss. You feel the rapture. You're floating. You're there but you're not and your heart is yearning for more at the same time the act itself is almost over. That beckoning feeling of the end which we all grapple with. Yet its power lies, I believe, in the thrust it gives us. Without it, we wouldn't have the beautiful experience of desire. The novelty and discovery and exploration is our internal quest. The trip of our minds. And what else is more exhilarating, more ethereal and more alive than understanding something new?
We are wired for truth. We are seekers. We are explorers. We are here. We are forever and we are changing the world and the universe in which we inhabit. Our subjectivity is our gift. It is how we express our view of the world after taking it all in. If words is all we have - as writers or bloggers - and language is the most astounding means of communication, why are we not using it to create more art embellished in poetry? Salvador Dali said "A true artist is not one who is inspired, but one who inspires others." This is who we need to be more of and strive to be for others. That's what I think.
